new zealand part four – milford sound

Milford Sound was so epic and enormous that I couldn’t even capture a fraction of what it was really like. It had this calm, sacred vibe to it and I felt like humans shouldn’t even be allowed there. We wove our camper down through the valleys and tunnels, stopping every five seconds to take photos and finally arrived at the harbour.

When we got there, we took an overnight cruise into the Fiord (incorrectly named a “Sound” apparently), ate a delicious three course meal, learned about the history of the place, learned about how New Zealanders skin possums, went for a ride on a mini speed boat, saw dolphins and seals, ventured out into the Tasman sea and vowed never to return home. I had to be carried back… as you can see in the last photo.

  • Kat - I meant it’s a little warmer in the North Island!ReplyCancel

  • Kat - Hello, I just recently discovered your photos and, wow! You are incredibly talented. I am currently spending a year in New Zealand and you have captured it so perfectly. I am planning my trip to the South Island and I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing which overnight cruise you went on and at what time of year you took this trip. It’s a little warmer in the South Island, so I’m not quite sure what to expect. :) Thank you, your photos have made me even more excited for my South Island adventure!ReplyCancel

  • Tristan - I understand, so wholly, what you mean when you say Milford Sound has this sacred vibe to it. It has an energy that can’t be captured through photography, film or sound…it’s an amazing place, one well worth making the journey for.

Your photographs are stunning, Brooke. Absolutely beautiful.ReplyCancel

  • Lauren - Brookie, these are so incredibly beautiful. You are so so talented. I’ve been to Milford Sound twice, once on the most horrible rainy day ever and the other was the most freakishly perfect day ever and while the perfect day photos were so amazingly crisp and clear and vivid, the rainy day brings the beautiful waterfalls and misty wonder – I’m glad you got one of those days because only you could capture that feeling perfectly!! Amazing!!!

    P.S. I miss you xoReplyCancel
